    Explorer socks

Perhaps a little off beat but then if you do not ask. Although living overseas for many years I have continued to buy some pieces of kit from home. Generally refreshing each visit home

For office shoes Florsheim and boots Redback. Know the size and just pick up and go. Protesting sales people wanting me to try them on. Why have you changed them? They fitted perfectly last time. If it works why change

Now I picked up shoes last visit pre COVID but for some reason not socks. There is nothing I have tried here over the years that matches the Explorer. Attempted to use this as a excuse to fly home however did not make it past management. Now I can buy them on line and even including postage they are cheaper than any of those I have tried here

So far so good however for some reason I looked on a review web site and all the reviews listed over the last couple of years are poor. Has something changed or is this just only those who are not happy posts reviews?

Perhaps those posting have fitment issues, with more than 3toes...

Nah, people with grievances are more likely to post reviews. My caveat is I haven't bought any for 18 months, but love 'em. I found Possum socks ( only the Kiwis ) more comfortable, but they don't last as well.

You could try some "Len Beadell" socks, perhaps?

    Well, I don't suppose he's using them.

I stopped buying explorer socks years ago when the moved production offshore. I found they shrank considerably when first washed. I buy Merino brand socks. They don't shrink and last years. Still made in Australia.

Used to buy the explorer's as well.

To much synthetic in them now.

I am now buying the "BAD" brand bamboo socks - very good.

    Prefer the bamboo over wool

I bought two pairs of bamboo socks about 3 years ago and am very pleased with them.

Bamboo sucks in cold climates. When I moved to Tasmania in May last year my feet froze until I changed to wollen socks. Explorer socks quality is not what it was I've stopped buying them.

I bought a couple of pairs on-line last year during the lockdowns - they're fine, don't seem much different to what they were 30 years ago.

But there's a few different variants now that are branded "Explorer" - it's called brand extension - maybe people have been buying the variants and not the original?

Big W also had them at a good price.
