I think the answer to that is simple: Marketing. Marketing make the LC300 cool, but not the Iveco Daily, which, apart from cost and daily use is a far better choice as it's fit for purpose out of the box.
Marketing sells dreams. I can't find it atm, but I recall an ad for the Jackaroo. Two blokes talking about one of them having a new car, somewhere in suburbia. Bloke goes off into dreamland, fantasising about Kakadu. Imagine him and her, 3 kids, the dog and provisions heading to Kakadu. In a Jackaroo.... It's the same thing now, with that silly Ranger with fake tow points. Image. And far too much money. Or should that be credit?

    Here's another Jackaroo ad.

Heaven forbid if you do with your own vehicle what they show in their adverts, ie. getting airborne when jumping over sand dunes, driving through the waves at the beach, etc and then go to the dealer afterwards and claim that the car is faulty...

If you're talking about the Jackaroo ad, I reckon the service people would point blank refuse to believe the car could do any of it.

An interesting take on GVM upgrades, BIL has just taken delivery (after a very long wait) of a new 78 series dual cab which comes with a factory GVM upgrade over his old one. Same springs, same suspension, same everything except the large orange warts on the front guards, they were probably always capable of the extra load, just weren't plated that way to reduce warranty claims.

Wow, just like a D4 can tell it's raining (in case it's owner can't) and turn the wipers on, that thing has automatically inflated the flotation devices.
