Question Warranty on parts and labour

Hey All, does anybody have any experience with claiming labour warranty after a genuine part has failed during a related repair?

Looks like I have a bloody big leak from a part (seal) I had replaced by a dealer that was changed while servicing another item. Their exact words were 'we don't want to pull this all back apart again if that starts leaking, so we will change it at the same time'.

The replacement part is not worth much, but the labour to get there cost about $600 last time and I don't want to eat that if I don't have to.

I can't find too much info from LR in Aust about their parts warranty and labour coverage, but I expect the local dealer should be able to make a claim, right?

Depends on how long ago it was fitted. These will be a time limit on the warranty which is often 12 months but you need to check the Land Rover Australia offering as it differs by market

If defective part is fitted by the dealer Labour to replace is normally part of the cover for the part. The dealer should handle this for you

Question then is was it the part that failed or was it incorrectly fitted by the dealer

You need to talk to the dealer and see how they respond

You would also potentially have some cover under consumer law down side there is you would have to go legal to enforce

If your car is out of warrantee but the work was within typical warrantee period for normal mechanics work (can’t remember what this is but 3 or 6 months come to mind) then yes it should be covered.

Eg I recently had ball joints changed which involves new drive shaft seals being replaced at the same time. One had a slow leak so was fixed about 3 months later, no charge. By my local indie, not LR.
    Cheers
