Any boat types help identify this?

Long shot I know, but maybe there's something obvious to one who knows, which ain't me. I'm just expected to fix it

Steve, a crazy woman who lives in Qld wants me to OKA my way up there and fix it. The idea that she might actually know what's wrong with it is hilarious. Something went kerfluey. apparently. Are Mercs known for doing that?

I hope she can cook... or something.

I'm aware that doesn't narrow it down much

Mercury did have a bad reputation, commonly known as a "Black Anchor", but whether this was warranted is open to conjecture. Depending on the age and model (it looks electric start) there could be several issues. It could be something as simple as a fuel filter or dodgy stator. Conversely, a kaput crankcase is a throw away scenario.
Strewth, with an outboard, the mind boggles.

    What HP is it? 50-60?

Bit hard to see from here.

My Grandfather lived on the canals near Jacksonville in Florida. They used to call them "welfare motors". "Black and broke".

Probably not very PC these days, but then Grandpa wasn't much for PC.

Looks like a 3 cylinder 60hp auto oiling. One of the better Mercs. Basic. Magneto regulated charging system, fuel pump is crank diaphragm driven, basic electronic ignition. 3 single throat carbs.

    Cheers

So if you give her the price of the fuel to drive up there it could make her want to go out and buy a new one…
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
