Been with IInet since 95 , ADSL 2years, tried Optus and Iprimus was back to IINET within 40 days... awesome very happy
Finally gonna go broadband at home. One for the IT gurus .... ( not really a LR question though !! )
Who are the best ISP out there ?
I heard that even though Telstra is more expensive it is better to go with them as they still own the copper, and using third party can be a hassle. I have Tesltra on the home phone and I see they are offering 9 months half price access.
Which is the best speed to go with for average home use ( banking, surfing etc maybe download a movie or two ). I was thinking 256 /512K ??
Also, is it better to get a wireless router or just a standard ADSL modem ?/ I'll only have one desktop connected
and...how many ADSL filters can you put on...I currently have four extension phones that I would like to keep.

Being in the country I went with West Net. 6 mionths half price and free connection. I went with 256 so that there is room to grow later once this seems slow.
I'm an IT manager for a reasonably sized (in terms of infrastructure) advertising firm. I have to say that my decision to go with iiNet recently for a couple of remote ADSL tails was the single worst decision of my professional life.
They have grown so fast that their support structure has lagged behind, and I've never known such incompetance within a company. Missed communications and crossed paths is what this company is all about. I have never had so many problems over a simple little thing such as ADSL implementation. They nearly crippled our company for a while and didn't care less.

Can't really comment on the different providers, however as you are looking you may find this site useful:

Always a gamble in my opnion, a good place to start for some info on each provider is here http://www.whirlpool.net.au/
I am currently wih TPG at home and work and although they are difficuilt to get on the phone the provision of service seems to be okay.
Hope this helps
Hi Waynep,
do yourself a favour and stay away from bigpond there crap more problem than you can throw a stick at. i'm with optus 2 yrs half price plus unlimited dial up account for an extra $5 a month which i let the kids use and i also use it when i'm at work, that way the boss can't winge. I have friends that use aapt and swear by them cheap and reliable. iiconnect, ozemail, iprimus and iinet are all owned by the same company in WA.search for isp's on the net and that will give you all the prices.

Go with Telstra and bundle your fixed line and DSL into one bill. You will get a discount.
Keep away from iiNet, they are heading for some real trouble. The same applies for Soul.

most isp's offer a phone broad band option, you just need to find the one that suits you.
Agreed. They have not honoured their SLA with us over the past two months. Total downtime has been measured (by us) to be in excess of 18 hours in two months. Truly pathetic.Originally Posted by noddy
