Reliable second hand car options

I know this has been done to death but I’m after options for a good secondhand vehicle for my Daughter - someone just ran into the back of her Camry and while it is still drivable it’s time to update it as it was a bit rough around the edges although it was mechanically good.

So a mid sized car - sedan or wagon.
Reliable, quiet and comfortable as she does a heap of KM in it.

While another Camry fits the bill, I thought I’d put it out there. Not looking for anything exciting - mediocre is fine as reliability is key. Did I mention it needs to be reliable so I wouldn’t entertain low volume or most Euro options.

Budget it around $8K.

That is if you can find a good one for around $8K.

The last Apprentice we had, had one,flogged the ring out of it for the four of the five years he was with us.It was 5 yrs old when he bought it.
Twelve years later his wife is still driving it around,has been virtually fault free.

Few friends have had a good run out of their Hyundai i30's. Our son has an Elantra and that has been pretty good. Neither are exciting to drive but just do what they are meant to do.

Yeah, I’m not averse to getting another one but I was just looking for something different and others experiences.

The last 2 Camrys I’ve bought have both been 98 V6’s and cost under $2K - both had cosmetic issues and cost almost nothing to get on the road. There’s quite a few reasonable 4 cylinders for well under $8K

Toyota make excellent whitegoods. Fattima's suggestion is a good one as well. Nissan Pulsar, maybe, but I reckon Nissan dropped the ball a little bit. Subaru Liberty if someone else has done the CV/wheel bearing nightmare. AWD sure adds to the safety cred.

I can't quite get my head around the number of i30's I see with peeling paint. They still run ok though.

... Like my '98 Camry wagon... Deep Red, at least where the clear coat is intact... pink where it's not.

Yeah, and the roof of my D3. Still, the i30 is a much newer vehicle. The paint shouldn't just peel off.

I30 doesn’t fit the quiet or comfortable bill unfortunately. She spends up to 5 hours a day in the car.

Suby is one I hadn’t thought of - I’ve had older ones and always likes them.
