Best way to sell a vehicle?

Shortly I'll be advertising my 2008 Defender for sale. It has been over 20 years since I sold a vehicle on the open market so I'm looking for current experience to guide me.

I'm thinking that I'll advertise here (AULRO), an appropriate Facebook site and Carsales.

Are there other places worth considering?

What if any are the pitfalls with these choices? and

What tricks to maximising interest and value?

    Thanks in advance!

NOT gumtree, aside from a plethora of assorted scammers bugging the crap out of you it would appear that your "hidden" phone number may leak from the site making you an ongoing target for annoying calls.

Facebook is where all the ebay and gumtree ads went anyway (mostly because they are free) I have sold a few vehicles on carsales which seems to be an OK platform.

You will still get all types of fools and scammers, that is just life these days,i use Carsales only, apart from here for LR's.

Sold lots of work vehicles on Caresales, over the years, found them the best by far.

We've used Gumtree a couple of times. I grab a prepaid sim and use a spare phone, so once the deal is done I let the SIM expire.

Interesting topic- My sisters think I am nuts as I am telling the truth- Craig- Ritta Landrover just found a small oil leak from mine. I was just getting service before I gave it to some one.

I am going to discuss it not hide it.

Its not illegal to sell a car with a known fault or issue. Is it ethical not to tell the person? I felt its not

Edit- PIT FALLS- Scams- Tire kickers - online allows a silly amount of reduculous and one or two clear scams! Be careful of people asking you to sift from where you get messages from to another platform they want you to use as its 'easier for them' to buy your car on that one!!!

Three at least offering installment payments for my Disco Only two Genuine both from this forum!!!!! GUMTREE is NOT advised at all !!!

Off to work for this black duck again- Vaccine calling

When I sold my 1HZ Landcruiser with RWC, it needed a leaking water pump addressed. I asked the mechanic to put a timing kit in it given it was due in 20,000kms and he would have the timing cover off anyway .... he couldn't believe I was going to do that at my expense even though I'd sold the car. As more and more transactions of second hand goods occurr in unprotected markets, we can all do a little to help lift the ethical standards. It will never stop bad behaviour at the margins, but hopefully will help shift the mean.

Mine has pretty much a complete documented servicing and maintenance history since I bought it new. I think that adds value. But caveat emptor still applies!

If they did the work. Neighbour bought a second hand car with an invoice to show timing belt, tensioner and water pump were replaced a month earlier. Had some problems and when garage looked at did the work again. Garage left the parts in a box in the car as all were clearly very used

My son’s had all that.He advertised his in Caresales, and it was gone by midday the next day, paid in full.

Priced it pretty much the same as the other similar ones on the site.

Although that was about three years ago.

Anyway, good luck with it,I bet it goes quickly.
