						I was chatting to a young aboriginal lad some time ago and he asked what I did for a living. My advice to him was the same as given to me many years ago. "Do what you like doing and above all, do it with people you like working or being with".
Sod what others reckon you should do.

There were from my grandfather who arrived in Australia before WW1 with pennys in a pocket with a hole in it and was operating multiple successful businesses in retail, farming and manufacturing when retired
Only borrow for appreciating assets or assets that will be income producing
Your home is just that and no more. Do not take advise of any kind from someone who believes it is an asset to leverage
If you are moving around for life buy a house where you think you want to retire. Does not have to be the house you want to retire to. You are with this house joining the market so it will rise and fall in line with the market. Once again not an asset a home
You have only made a profit if you can sell and then buy an identical replacement at a price that allows you to sell again. Once again have nothing to do with people who do not understand this basic principle of business as you will go broke with their advice. They will be the ones making profit out of you. They will then move on to the next person and do the same to them
