I didn't Make It To Sydney

Last night I was heading to Sydney from Shepparton. I stopped at the Shell at Gundagai.

For those that don't know it you have probably heard of the "Dog On the Tuckerbox" This is the location.

As I was exiting an Audi decided to clean me up. It hit me that hard that I have bruised ribs from being thrust into the drivers door.

The police estimated that they were probably doing 80kph on impact.

Point of impact was directly under drivers door and bull bar. You can see bull bar bent and pushed into steer tyre. See 1st pic.

The second pic is where it finished up after I stopped.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Likely nowhere... likely on the phone and or doing anything but concentrating on driving a heavy piece of machinery (show me a universe where 2 ton of motor vehicle isnt a heavy piece of machinery)
Unlucky for the truck driver, hope the truck wasn't damaged.
lucky that it wasn't a family with children crossing the road or a family in a small car.

I have zero sympathy for brainless arseholes on the road.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The truck did sustain minor damage. When the towie pulled the bull bar from the steer tyre I was able to drive the truck back into the servo. (it is a huge truck stop)

From there, under instruction from my boss, the trailers were unhitched and left there to be picked up the next day and delivered to Sydney, albeit a day late.

The prime mover was then towed back to Shepparton and I got a lift with the towie.

Apparently according to the towie it is common practice in this scenario for the police to issue a defect on the truck so it has to be towed, but this did not happen in this case.

And yes, whilst waiting for towie to arrive the police stayed around and we did discuss that it was lucky that it wasn't a car that they hit.

It was also discussed that lucky for the occupants it was not an old car. The out come for them would have been a lot different.

I was also thinking that it was lucky for them that I was not 5 metres further up the road as they would had gone under one of my trailers.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I'm all good thanks Ian. Bloody sore and tired though.

Accident was 9.30 last night. It was 2.00 am by the time we got to Albury.

From there the truck was unhooked and transferred to another tow truck. I got back to our depot at 4.30 am.

From there it was a trip to Shepp hospital to get checked out. Left hospital at 11.00 am. Got about 20 mins snooze in waiting room.

Even though I was in a big truck, the force of the impact was so great that my ribs on my RH side were whacked hard into the trucks door close grab handle.

Cleared of anything serious, just bruising. Bloody sore though. I will be off work for 5 or 6 days.

Lucky they didn't plough into your fuel tank at that pace. May have been an entirely different outcome.

Be thankful you weren’t in one of your Land Rovers at the time.

And by the way - your boss made the right call.
