Which engine? They came with Renault, Daf or Volvo. The Volvo B200 was bulletproof.

Not sure as it's over 40 years ago now. I have a feeling it was a 1.4 343 which was the Renault engine.
It was a Company Car, I drove it hard until it died which it did on the M11 near Cambridge. I do remember persuading the AA guy to tow it off the motorway and back on in the other direction (illegal in the UK to tow onto a motorway). Got him to drop me off at my Mum's and borrowed her car to get home.

id pick a Corolla / Camry.
but anything built round that 2000 year mark is going to be half decent.
Farmers used to like the old volvo, 240 DL from memory, i was going to buy one for a laugh, but prices are a bit high for a old ****ter.
Hi,
Had a 240DL years ago as the kids would not fit in the Subaru 1400 Coupè. It worked best on the open road, but had formidable front and rear protection in the car park. It drove away from a prang that would have killed a lesser car, and probably No2 son who was driving.
Cheers
Back to the original question; the 5cyl Ovlov, isn’t that the same engine used in the Focus ST? I’ve heard of a couple of those that had major disasters. Or was that because Ford turned the wick up? I do know they are a hoot.
Ashtrays never needed emptying either.Quote:
