My loaf at a mere 356K has a couple of leaky valve stem seals..... Leave stand for 2+ hours and depending on the moon, will start with a smoke screen.... lasts around 4 to 5 mins to burn off. Goes reliably. Getting new front discs for the first time, and they apparently leak fuel-smell from perishing pipes top of fuel tank. But only when filled FULL.
-- And one door lock motor is sticky.... Just too lazy to install the $25 eBay one. Yet.

SupporterApart from his and her Patrols, my son has a Focus as his DD. He loves it. Never misses a beat and is fun to drive.
Before they got the Y62 they had a Ranger 3.2 six speed. 150k and the only thing that broke was the thermostat at 20k. Beats most modern LRs.

My uncle put a rover v8 into a poo brown 244 when I a kid. Apparently its still on the road down in melbourne. the main thing I remember about it was how good it sounded! He drove it for years and years. (this would probably be 30`ish years ago). with the 4cylinder auto and diff in it ... it apparently near did wheel stands down the road under acceleration (as you could imagine they didn't survive long)

Well thanks everyone for your help, and stories. Just a little update - I found out I get a company car with the new job so 2nd car required. I will need a 2nd car on occasion, so have got permission from the minister of finance to release some funds to fix the old Series 3 I have had sitting in the yard for a few years now!
So I think when all is said and done that's the best outcome
