Fit the bikes in no worries, but probably hard to find a good one as they are getting on a bit.
My loaf at a mere 356K has a couple of leaky valve stem seals..... Leave stand for 2+ hours and depending on the moon, will start with a smoke screen.... lasts around 4 to 5 mins to burn off. Goes reliably. Getting new front discs for the first time, and they apparently leak fuel-smell from perishing pipes top of fuel tank. But only when filled FULL.

-- And one door lock motor is sticky.... Just too lazy to install the $25 eBay one. Yet.

Of the list you mentioned the only real bullet proof car would be the, go figure, toyota.

So, does this mean that my wife's 2009 C70 is impregnated with Ford stuff as well?

The C70 is built on the same platform as a ford focus mate I'm sorry. Only real advantage is they owned mazda as well at that time so some of that may have spilled over.

Apart from his and her Patrols, my son has a Focus as his DD. He loves it. Never misses a beat and is fun to drive.
Before they got the Y62 they had a Ranger 3.2 six speed. 150k and the only thing that broke was the thermostat at 20k. Beats most modern LRs.

Stayed at the darling harbour one a couple of years ago. It was pretty good! (A complimentary beer on arrival goes a long way Should I buy a Volvo?)

There was a noticeable V8 burble coming from an HSV Commodore and a similar noise from a car in the kerb lane which I couldn't make out what it was, overlying the V8's was a supercharger whine coming from something. The lights duly changed to green and an old faded 264 Volvo just launched leaving the HSV and everything else in its wake.
The same thing happened at the next two sets of lights and the HSV quietly turned off down a side street rather than getting hosed again.
A few days later I bumped into the same 264 at a local mechanical workshop, the owner proudly explaining that nothing could keep up with the blown V8 and the old Volvo made an excellent sleeper!
He did comment though that keeping it straight was a bit of a problem with only one front wheel on the deck due to the torque twisting the car.
My uncle put a rover v8 into a poo brown 244 when I a kid. Apparently its still on the road down in melbourne. the main thing I remember about it was how good it sounded! He drove it for years and years. (this would probably be 30`ish years ago). with the 4cylinder auto and diff in it ... it apparently near did wheel stands down the road under acceleration (as you could imagine they didn't survive long )

Well thanks everyone for your help, and stories. Just a little update - I found out I get a company car with the new job so 2nd car required. I will need a 2nd car on occasion, so have got permission from the minister of finance to release some funds to fix the old Series 3 I have had sitting in the yard for a few years now!

So I think when all is said and done that's the best outcome Should I buy a Volvo?
