Thread: Suzuki Grand Vitara & Kia Sorento

I had a mate bring his bog standard V6 Grand over to Moreton, a few years ago and, except for clearance, it performed pretty well. I did have to pull him through two stretches on 'The Desert' access, but there were a few vehicles needing assistance at that time.

I got under and removed the useless 'Bash' plate, which was a fibre type of thing, as it was dragging along the ground after a kilometre, or so. I reckon the V6 engine tends to make the vehicle a little nose heavy in the really loose sand and a mild lift would be beneficial.

I've no recent experience with Zooks, sorry ozscott, but I was pretty impressed with the one, of which I experienced twenty or more, years ago.

Some V6 Vitaras (certainly the early 2.0 V6 version) had timing chain issues - not sure if it was sorted by the time the Grand Vitaras with the 2.5 came out.

Some models of Sorrento (and Hyundai Santa Fe) have splines that strip in the transmission/transfer case. Have a quick google for common problems first.

Not sure what year you're looking at but my parents had a 2008 4 cylinder petrol and it was gutless. Got it stuck in softish sand because it just had no torque and would bog down when you changed gears (even with tyres at 10psi). Had a mate in a standard V6 outback who was running rings around me.

I went to uni with a mate who had a 2003 year model V6 and it was much better. Mind you it was only a few years old when he had it.

Yep. Friends had an early2000 Swift from new and had quite a few issues. It is the only one that I'm aware of though.

Thanks all. I think he is chasing a 3.2 V6 with a good service history. Seems to be a good motor if well serviced and the best of the motors. Cheers
