Would not have noticed as I have never read blogs
One thing that kept me away was that those I have seen appeared to be advertiorals rather than sources of useful information
Might be a question of where the blogs appears?
Hello All,
Do you still read Blogs in 2023? I have just endured a number of YouTube clips about whether or not Blogs are still accessed by readers in 2023. Oddly enough most of these clips were done by Bloggers... Could they just have a slightly vested interest in what they are promoting? Hmmm. Might be time to ask a general question via, where else - AULRO's General Chat.
I am attempting to follow some of the guidelines presented within an Iron Maiden song My Wildest Dreams... I will just grab one verse - all the rest apply equally though...

I'm gonna organise some changes in my life
I'm gonna exorcise the demons of my past
I'm gonna take the car and hit the open road
I'm feeling ready to just open up and go
One form of my 'just opening up and going' is the consideration of forming a Blog for some of the mental health stuff I have been posting here on AULRO.
So - do you still read Blogs? Are Blogs still a useful source of information in 2023?
Kind regards
Lionel

I've never read a blog.

Never.
Websites are becoming obsolete too.
i just look at pictures.
I'm not 100% sure what a blog actually is. I know what they started out as, but these days??

As an ancient one from the deep dark days of the interwebs, hell even before that with BBS's (for those that are in the know) I have seen it all come and go. In particular my wanderlust has always pulled me to searching for RTW or overlanding as it is known today etc. and I have certainly noticed a trend:
A very long time ago, in the days of the BBS and not long thereafter Usenet there was virtually no information regarding said subject to be found. Sure, there were some camel trophy threads here and there but they were far and in between. Then sir Tim Berners Lee "invented" HTTP/HTML and the first websites began to appear. It was from the mid ninetees on that one could start to find a write up of a persons travels, but mostly they were done afterwards since an internet connection in the west was illusive enough, let alone in deep dark africa where phones had yet to permeate. What you mostly saw however was that people wrote a book afterwards and tried to make a bit of a buck
After the "homepages" if we can call them that, came the blog. I guess that was around the mid naughties. Most people found a way to sneak into an internet cafe now and then and upload their hard work onto a badly maintained blog site and eventually on dedicated blog sites, some even specializing in travel. This too came to an end and around the mid teens people started moving towards facebook if they hadn't already and "recently" even started moving towards the (anti)"socials" like instagram and what not. Some even went to youtube.
An example of the latter is Dan Grec. This guy started a blog in the later days of blogging, 2009 and in 2020 made a very abrupt break and moved to youtube, not returning to his site other that to promote his youtube stuff.
We have had this discussing before on aulro; forum or facebook? The consensus is that you can actually FIND stuff on a forum and facebook is rubbish at that. By that same token you could actually FIND stuff on websites/homepages or blogs but not on youtube unless the topic is in the clickbait by chance. I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how to deal with our trip writeups. Sure, I am not a Dan or anyone else trying to make money so that I can continue my travels, it might come to that when I am brokeso I do not need to keep monetization into account but I do have a number of people staying behind I want to keep up to date and some of them are more of the insta/linkedin types.
My conclusion thus far has been: Make a facebook / instagram account for the trip only (same company) and post a pic and a few words on there, possibly disable comments since I won't be interacting through that medium I THINK. In any case those two link to my "blog" site which holds my more detailed stories both day to day stuff as well as a costs log, repair log, stuff that people who actually want to go do this are interested in but is difficult to filter from hours and hours of video or blogs even. A video could also be made which CAN be uploaded to youtube but again, it would certainly also be on my own site for various obvious reasons.
So, in short, do I read blogs? Well I must admit hardly anymore. And if I do it is because I came across a person with a subject that interested me and I read through the whole lot like a book. There are only a handful of blogs I frequent, landcruisingadventure.com is one of them. The interval of their posts is sooooooooo loooooooong however that I used to just check it once a year or so. The one other blog I used to like has become an endless stream of politically charged crap so whenever I visit his site hoping to find some nice technical article, I am usually repaid with drivel. It's a shame but blogs don't fit the tiktok attention span we have these days
Cheers,
-P
Who buys Penthouse/Playboy anymore? Are they still produced?
About 20+ years ago, I managed couple of multi-story buildings in Sydney. One day, one of the storemen came to me with a Penthouse or a Playboy and asked if I recognised one of the girls. I did, she worked on the floor below my office.
