Peach Tree Camp Ground And Jimna Fire Tower

I WAS AT KILCOY A FEW DAYS AGO AND ASKED THE BLOKE WHO COOKED MY LUNCH WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE FIRE TOWER?

I already knew that the fire tower and the picnic spot adjacent had been closed for some time.
I was very surprised to hear that the state government wants to demolish it and the picnic area.
He also told me that they plan on removing the camp ground as well.
The new people who manage timber on government land see tourism as not needed. I assume this is a flow on from the regional forestry agreement which would see everyone denied access other than certified tree hugger. I don't have anything against conservation I am for it as long as everyone gets to see nature.
They seem to want to close everything up and preserve it. My mum used to preserve fruit. We would then open the jars over the rest of the year.
She never used too fill boxes and label them never to be opened, that would have been silly.
I am told there is some Professor Doctor who has Peter Beaties ear and he is not listening to anyone else. The Kilcoy shire said they would help with the fire tower, but only removing the only wood when it is demolished. I reckon they would make a bit of money out of it too, how kind they are.
Not long ago the coroner who reported of the fire that started in a Victorian national park that burned across NSW and into ACT said " a an extensive network of well maintained track and access road need to be in place to prevent a similar disaster ".
NSW and Vic national parks closed down the fire trail network years ago down there.
Now if I were "the smart state" I wold be looking after the asset which are the access tracks. Rather that spending money closing them.
Or do we have our heads in the sand Mr Beatie.

its been going on for years. stopping supplying firewood, stifling access, banning fireplaces... i cant spell the name but it is like iyla keeyo.

and dont forget the other big reason is because people dont take responsibility for their own actions and try to sue the crap out of the government if they trip on an ant and as usual the silent majority lose, while the greedy gain till they blow it for everyone...

the other big thing is they have to spend money on maintaining the places instead of raising the salaries of the heads of departments....

Apparently the Qld Govt is devolving management of firest plantations to a seperate entity. This owuld mean that for many trips where individuals or dclubs venture they would need to get seperatae permits for plantation forests and state forests. A denial from either party would effectively destroy many trip possibilities where crossing of both 'forest' types is encountered.

    Fuel prices.
    Restricted Access.
    Increased camping fees
Banning of open fires (even in 'safe' conditions)

It's all very depressing but all I can say is :

    closing down forests

The horse people are getting a thousand horses to go protest about the Mary river.
Why don't we get together and have a national day and have everyone in a four wheel drive turn up at parliament house in Brisbane.
I would even let some Toyota people come along too.make up the numbers.
The cattle men did that in Melbourne years ago with the cattle.
It would be good just to see Mr Dead-beets face.

In NSW the National Parks and the State Forests have formed an unholy alliance...formerly adversaries are now in cahoots...to the exclusion of those people who pay for their existence. It is all now being declared Wilderness because no one can go there

the ploy here is to move the state forests to national park and them lock them so they dont have to pay for them..
