They are not much fun,i can remember cyclone Wanda,like it was yesterday.Yes i am showing my age.

Wind and rain just kept on,and on,and on,the rain was horizontal for days.Not just drizzle,it was heavy most of the time,flooding everywhere.

We were on Fraser island when it crossed the coast,luckily inland,staying in the Forestry hut at the time.

Got off the island the next day,i won't repeat the story of that trip,it is on here in another thread.

It trashed the Gold Coast as well.

I was living in Cairns when Larry hit, actually at work in Karumba when he crossed the coast. It was a circuitous track home from and with visible damage from Mt. Garnett east.
My house in Bayview Heights had a secluded pool, that should one be so inclined, one could skinny dip, safe from the prying eyes of peeping toms.
On arrival, there was not a twig left in the back yard, but the open front yard was completely obscured by vegetation from other yards.
The Palmerston Highway was on my regular route, until the cyclone I was was unaware of the houses hidden in the rain forest. On my first trip up the Palmerston, post Larry, the Queensland humour was demonstrated by a bed sheet, hung from the verandah of a suddenly exposed house, that read JUST LARRIED.

We dodged a bullet with Yasi, thanks to the speed it crossed the coast. As an exceptionally large system, the affected area was extensive, concentrated on Tully.
A few days after the blow I was in Bramston Beach, surveying the damage. At the half-a-jetty, still standing, I came across a New Guineaian family taking photographs of each other, with the remnants of the jetty in the background. I offered to take a picture of the whole group, with their camera. Whilst doing so, they claimed responsibility for all the damage caused by Yasi, it was also their surname.

"More than 530mm has fallen at Nunimbah and Bald Mountain near Murwullimbah since Sunday morning."
