Wnen I arrived in Melbourne from NZ in 1967 I wanted to buy a Land Rover. I eventually bought this from a mob called Carthy Motors. It was a Pilchers Ambulance from Woomera Rocket Range. He was having difficulty selling it and offered it to me for 1700 pounds. I agreed if he would fit an extra tank to the LHS which he did. It had a fold up seat , bunk arrangement on one side and rails for a folding stretcher on the other. It had 12000 miles on the clock and served me faithfully for many years. I eventually sold it to a school teacher in Mt Hagen after I was transferred to New Ireland I took a series one project car with me then.
Yes it had a factory tropical roof over the cab. I took the body off for a while to make it better as a work truck on a mileage allowance.

Sitting here having Smoko I remembered Australia went Decimal in 66 so that must have been 1700 dollars. I forget now but it was 1700 anyway.,
