Son splurged out and bought me a NEW office chair, y'know, the one with a tall back, nice "leather" and up/down plus lean back action. - The usual stuff.
Eight hours of use... and the microscopically thin "leather" surface is flaking off it's fabric backing material... - Yep, two days use, and it looks worse than the (real solid leather-look vinyl) old one.... - the one with a torn line of stitching on the seat cushion.
EIGHT hours
Just glad he didn't pay too much from his mate.
And the padding underneath is more air than foam. - Don't ask how I know !
I reckon 'they' are doing it on purpose, see how far they can push, - and get away with it.
- Old one is getting re-covered with FABRIC...
And the electric blanket is suddenly running 50% cooler. Aldi product, so why surprised.
-- Yes, still use it for the 'feet' end, for when I need to paddle about cold tile floors at night... Turn it on when I exit, off again upon return.
Only noticed because the Cat no longer was curled up down there... not warm enough.
Go cheap,pay twice,as they say...
I've had a good run with stuff from there, but I have a tale... Back when I was in the B-double world we would sometimes struggle to get backloads. But there was one that was reliable, but only covered fuel. It came out of Eastern Creek, and would go to one of three warehouses in Melb. It was all the returns from that store, and the warehouse was like the one at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". All destined to go back from whence it came, in a big steel box.

I bought a new office chair (gaming style) from OfficeWorks earlier this year. The foam on the armrests compresses when one's arm rests on it and slowly recovers when one's arm is lifted. Like you say, the foam is more air than foam.
The instructions warned that the surface "leather" can flake off. It hasn't happened yet.
If you are looking for a chair from OfficeWorks, I wouldn't recommend the Typhoon brand "Bathurst" gaming chair, P/N JBBATHCHBK

The whitish lines and marks, are where the thin black surface has come away... Sewing the stuff during manufacture was enough to start the rot. !
Ooh, yeah.

SubscriberI wouldn't call that an acceptable outcome. Not fit for purpose.

I bought a new chair from Hardly Normal about 6 months ago, couple of hundred bucks, and so far, so good. It replaced a leather look alike thing my sons cat ripped the hell out of clawing it. Bloody cats mutter mutter.

Decent of him to admit fault and replace it. Many would have said it wasn't their cat.
