So the rules from the insurance company Stated that the tyres needed to be replaced with the same ones. Said repairers could not find a HT pattern in the original brand, so replaced it with ATs on the rear.
For whatever reason, as soon as the car was around 100kph, it was shaking like a blender.
Whether it was just the tyre type, alignment, balance, or whatever, the shaking stopped as soon as the tyres were replaced with HT ones.

I'm thinking something else was happening, like a loose wheel, i.e. not seated properly on the hub.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

SubscriberIf tyre sizes front to rear are a different size but very close to the same, and what I am suggesting here is the same size with new on one axle and near bald on the other,
the amount that the centre diff would constantly be working would be minuscule.
I very much doubt that it would matter.
It's when you start spinning a wheel with it unlocked that you start the damage process.

SubscriberInterestingly enough I am sitting in a tyre shop at the moment getting two new km3 tyres fitted to the front of the defender. I was running nitro terra grapplers and staked one so I decided to go back to the BFGs on the back axle. Diabolical handling resulted with stability control kicking in on corners and a very unstable feel to the vehicle. Hopefully a couple of new tyres on the front will solve my issues. I measured the height of the tyres last night and there is about 1” difference in the diameter between front and rear. And yes, my 130 does have stability control….

SubscriberAll fixed with a couple of new front tyres. I would not have imagined that mismatched tyres could have such a dramatic effect on handling.

I'm amazed this thread keeps hanging on. It's common dog **** not to use dissimilar tyres without professional advice.
On my last vehicle , a Ranger, I ended up with 3 different tyre brands due to issues out bush , but took the car to my local indy who removed and checked the 5 wheels for true and balance and all was good.
So, I'm helping to extend the thread.....

SupporterEnding up with all sorts of different tyres could easily happen even in a major city as I can't even get the tyre I want till maybe Wednesday, so nearly a week away as no stock in Brisbane, has to come from the warehouse in Sydney. I used to think if I went touring out west, I might not get an extra spare wheel but would get a spare tyre carcass, but now I'm thinking of buying a carcass just to keep at home, so I don't have the nerve wracking wait of driving around without a spare wheel!
