The satellite situation is not quite as Homestar describes these days.

Whether Skymuster is overcrowded depends on where you are - it depends on which beam you are in. Data restrictions are a little eased - look for "Skymuster+" plans. In my experience, it is quite reliable.

But it is no longer the only game in town. Starlink is a LEO satellite system operated by SpaceX. It is relatively new, and the situation is likely to change quite rapidly. However, it is clear that it is fairly reliable, has unlimited data, is very fast compared to Skymuster, has very low latency compared to Skymuster or any other connection except fibre. But it is very expensive compared to Skymuster both on installation ($400-$1400, but depends on locality and also keeps changing) and monthly charges (seems to vary, but fixed residential about $140, mobile or commercial can run into thousands).

If you can afford it, I would go Starlink if you can stomach the company owner.

I looked at skylink and I could afford it, but at double Skymesh price plus $600 to buy the stuff to set up, it a cost I do not want.

The Skymesh plan is $60 with unlimited and they assure me that I can stream Netflix etc.

But wait, the sarga continues. I got a phone call from Skymuster today. This is the company doing the installation.

They told me that the technician is very aware of my area and that I should be using wireless.

When I told her why I could not have it her reply was "cut down the trees"

I could not believe this and when I demanded to get satellite she told me no, I have to go wireless.

After this, the call got heated she hung up on me.

I rang back and asked to speak to a manager. I got some bloke who was very understanding and is sending around a tech to investigate satellite.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Probably if she wanted verbal abuse she would have stayed at home with her ****pot. unemployed partner.

But,but but, calling her a stupid olde bitch probably wasn't really the best way forward, when you think about it.

She would find that Offensive especially if she wasn't olde.

She ran everything through her smartphone and I dont have a clue.

I don’t want all of that or I might as well stay at home. But I don’t want a satphone either and it’s a really good way for family to keep in touch. I’m not young anymore and will be travelling alone once I get my house sold. I won’t be going without it. And it’s easy.

After  introduced it as an SOS feature it was only a matter of time. But with Android the functionality will be hit or miss, depending on who makes the phone. Samsung, which is Korean for Apple apparently, will no doubt do a reasonable job of it, Pixel will charge a sub for it and then drop it, and it's anyone's guess what Oppo will do. But none of them will be the same.

    And all notoriously unreliable.

Internode used to be great when we registered in 2000 but they sold out to iinet or TPG.??? & then slowly the support Desk went overseas so you get the accent problem with the reps.

I think the guy who initiated Internode bought a Private Aircraft & Various Hugh quality cars It was always a pleasure when you got a LOCAL English,NZ voice on the other end of the phone.

Recently they passed E-Mail service over to a Crowd called "The Messenger Co" an E-Company & if you registered (now gone) you kept your current e-mail addy. One of four.
