Well, when one stops & thinks about it, it's forecast to cost the Port & the US Billions or Trillions in lost trade that appears trapped inside for now & post collapse. It just has to be carried out at Ports around the world possibly around the same times.

Waiting on that essential LR Part? Forget it for now. They may Air Freight it out, but has anyone checked Air Freight charges lately that you weren't expecting?

Apart from the direct shipping effects (ships and cargo stuck in the port or outside waiting to dock), and the cargo stuck as a result, there will be flow on effects felt worldwide. These will be due to the shortage of shipping due to all these ships doing nothing constructive for at least weeks, probably months, possibly years, until the port resumes operations, and changes in shipping forced as a result, involving more wasted time and mileage as other ships reroute to different ports, and increase their congestion.

In a system that hasn't recovered from the effects of the virus, and the Panama and Suez canal/Red Sea issues.

Then we have India controlling the Eight Degree Channel, and far more importantly, the Malacca Strait. No friend of China, who depend on that passage.

May we live in interesting times. Well, expensive ones at least.

Bugger. I was just thinking "happy my car is not on that particular ship" and then you guys came along with all the "happy" news about the knock-on effect of shipping this will have.

I have a conspiracy theory You blokes just don't want me to visit Australia this October and certainly not bring my range rover!

    Cheers,

This is a good video which answered some questions I had, and debunked a couple of conspiracy theories I heard.

I haven't watched them as there is sure to be a number of conspiracy theorist among them.

You don't need to go to Youtube - Skynews broadcast a video they found online purporting to be the bridge being hit by an explosion, Steve Price weighed in saying that it was clearly sabotage - but it was video of a bridge in Crimea being hit by an missile: it clearly wasn't the same bridge, there was no similarity whatsoever.
