1979 Ser3 109GS Will one day if I ever get around to doing it, turned into a Army Ser3 Crane truck as seen in Remlr pages that was in Hervey Bay.
I bought the crane after it was removed from the original vehicle for rent on Fraser Island.
I don't know what ever happened to it all Know is they sold it before I had a chance to buy, but thats ok I still have all the bits I need to fit it all up to mine.
As far as we know it was the only Army Ser3 fitted up with a crane.
Oh and I've had the old girl now for over 6 years now.

That's the one. Number 4497 off the oroduction line. It's 60 from the end of the big blank section, so that's all I can tell you. I'm really sorry about that

pics mate, pics, since Im setting up kermit as a recovery/mechanics tool box a crane would be an excellent addition, especially if it wasnt one of those piddly davit arm types

500kg at about 1.3m would be more than enough to work on rover stuff

Series 3, dated 5\79, 109 panelvan. Owned her for 3 months only, and love it.

Mods include:- factory fitted left side long range fuel tank, with Smith's transfer pump ( driving down the road watching the fuel guage rise is a trip)
get out and do it yourself locking front hubs
full length roof rack ( currently removed, by a tree.)
upgraded headlight system (nice BIG dual sided relay, one side for each beam, and industrial strength wiring. 415V\120A)
a set of modified F100 LWB steps (coz I'm not tall)
a comfy seat (already fitted when purchased)
and, of course, all the obligatory custom dents and scratches.

As soon as I can purchase an affordable digital camera, pics will be posted.

Oh, and now she has a "custom" weeping head gasket. Bugger.

    Shorty.
