    Series 3 owners

There seems to be a lot of us who own series vehicles, just how many of us are here.

Post up with your series vehicle, pics and how long have you had it.

My series 3 I have owned for 11 years, in this time I have striped and rebuilt it several times. I know every bolt, rivot and rattle in the beast. I have travelled everywhere in it and have used it to compete at top level. All be it it's modified but it's still a series 3.

I fit the thing like a glove, an extention of the body. I have several rovers and this truck is more than my favorite. Another rebuild is under way and more money but thats ok by me.

Now that is a fantastic looking series 3

I've had mine for about 5 years now I think. I've used it offroad a few times and love it (even with it's lack of wheel travel die to HD springs), and enjoyed fixing it, driving it and finding the army bits to go back on it (anybody got a good FFR canopy to give away )

I've got a 1976 109 Hardtop. It started life as a 1969 2A, but after a Taxi induced accident that bent the chassis, it became a 1976 model - because that's what the new chassis number was.

I've had it for 19 years now and it has been my daily driver until a few weeks ago when I bought a Defender.

It's been up to Darwin a few times, done the Gibb River Road, driven on the beach at Broome, crossed the Simpson Desert and toured the Victorian High Country.

There have been some improvements & accessories over the years :

    EXTERIOR
    • Bull Bar
    • Fog Lights
    • Capstan Winch
    • Front Bash Plate
    • Pioneer Tool Brackets
    • Deluxe Bonnet
    • Chequer Plate
    • Low Line alloy roof rack (Custommade)
    • Land Cruiser Troopy sliding windows at the back
    • Defender Doors
    • H/Duty tow bar
    • Jerry can holders
    • Rear work lamp
    • Relocated rear tail lights (to accommodate the jerry can holders)
    • Painted in Gloss Bronze Green with Ivory Roof & Wheels

    INTERIOR
    • County front seats (x3)
    • Cargo barrier
    • Overhead console
    • UHF & 27meg CB (now in Defender)
    • 240 Volt power (now in Defender)
    • Rear Seating (8)
    • Rear Chequer Plate floor
    • Sound Proofing
    • Curtains

    ENGINE / TRANS / SUSPENSION
    • 2.25 4cyl on ULP & LPG
    • Cam regrind
    • High compression head
    • Extractors
    • Electronic Ignition
    • Bosch Alternator
    • Snorkel
    • Suffix C Gearbox
    • Fairey Overdrive
    • Parabolic Suspension
    • KONI rear shocks
    • Rear station wagon fuel tank
    • LPG tanks where side fuel tanks used to go (total 70 litre)
    • RTC Steering Damper
    • Aux electric fuel pump (built in redundency / backup)
There may be a few other mods, that I can't recall at the moment. I'm supposed to sell it, but I think it's got too much family heritage value. If I could only afford a farm to put it out to pasture in.

I've got an 1978 ex army 109' . Had it for around 3 years, it's a daily driver / on going project (the list of stuff to do never ends ).
I looked at keeping it origianal army spec, but it was too much of a basket case. (previous owner butcherd it)

Nothing much to look at :
    110 army canopy
worked 202 efi holden on gas (ready to go in)
    coilpack ignition (megasquirt)
NP435 transmission - 1/2 way through the conversion
    high speed transfer case
shaved maxi sals rear - ready to go in
arb front - almost ready to fit

It's going to be off the road soon for a big refit of the above ........

***looking for a s3 6 cyl bell housing. will buy, borrow, steal, or swap.
    I'm in SE melb - 0433 127 806 ****

Just as I thought, Series vehicles all can work on them, modify them, keep them original or any other form and we all do this as a passion and hobby, just confirmed I am not alone. Only problem is we are running out of useable parts.

Anything we do looks like it should be and we have no issues with legalities. And all these trucks have a personallity of their own.

Come on guys there is more of you.

Yes I do have one, sIII hardtop Bahama Gold with the original 2.25 diesel in it. It will one day be a Watagan Warrior but not yet. I get the money to do it then as always something else comes up. I want coils shocks or a leaf over conversion big treads take the roof off then a cage. Sexy mesh seats and a break it replace it policy on everything on the car. The few times I've driven it, I've loved every second. You cannot get character like this in a any other car.

And i am another! I confess, i have a passion for my series III, i'm 19 and have had it for about 6mths now. Its basically totally original, SWB 1977 with the 2.25 petrol and a weber carbie. Its great fun to drive, tho am totally keen to get it off the road more! Come on you sydney boys, lets do some series trips, show em what this old things can do. Its my pride and joy, and i plan to do some big trips in it, the cape, fraser island, maybe over to perth. But god forbid, these petrol prices are a killer. Lets face it, as loveable as these things are they're not exactly efficient, but hey the weren't designed to be, so im gonna use it for what it WAS designed for. Whos up for a watagans trip soon?

Another tidbit of information, I have a database of all series 3 vehicles built in Australia (came to have it doing some work for carzee on REMLR), so if you want any mroe info (there isn;t a lot on there), let me know the chassis number, body number or engine number and I can look it up

Will be a while till I get the old girl back on road. I'm putting a new chassis under her and do something with the engine. I have to detune the windsor or my other choice is a supercharged 3.9 rover. Either way I have a lot of work to do, Spending more than usual this time round. Retrim of interior, realy decided to go all the way this time.

Should put up a poll Windsor 500hp V8 or 3.9 supercharged, cause I can't decide.

But yes I would drive it down for a run. with a BP tanker following.
