we finally succumbed and decided to connect NBN.
The "node" is about 500mtrs away, down the street and around the corner. Neighbours have connected therefore the fibre optic cable has been fed all the way and up the street.
So far 4 different teams have dug holes and done something near the Telstra box.
We have had two different crews attach boxes inside and outside the house and now another crew has run the fibre optic cable to the outside box.
Each time a crew completes their part , they tell us someone should be in touch with us within 2 weeks.
So, now we wait for a technician to connect the signal and we set up the modem (which was delivered to us about 8wks ago) ourselves.
This has cost us zero and we just choose a plan with Telstra for about the same weve been paying for adsl broadband.
How it is costed, I have no idea. Total time 10-12wks, total number of labourers digging and running and connecting about 20-30.

When ours was connected early 2020, they took just 1hr to move the fibre optic cable from the outside of the house in the telstra box to under our built in computer desk inside. I was home so helped the technician with location of cable and modem box and then i did the rest myself, ours is the HFC so all cabling was already there.
