    Aldi insurance

I know it’s relatively new but does anyone have experience with their home cover? I’ve been with my current insurer for years. They have just upped my premium by a bit. Aldi has quoted half the amount with double the cover which would make it a no brainer if they are any good. Underwritten by RACV apparently. Going to pull the pin if it seems good.

Quite possible I have just let mine roll over without really paying attention. I am definitely going to give CGU a chance to respond. They did rebuild after a fire I guess. But that was 15 years ago. I let thing's slide for a while...

You made me go back and check, just in case. Def half the price, def double the house cover, more on the contents, and they give me 10% off if I get complimentary "Smart Sensors", whatever they are.

So... I guess I should have paid attention sooner... $441,000 building, $22,000 contents ( I know, not enough, but I pared it to the bone a while back ). Premium total $3965 PA.
Aldi. $920,000 building, $70,000 contents. Premium $1835 PA.

Apparently CGU are "sorry to see me go".... Not sorry enough.

Be careful trying to save money, by under-insuring. Insurance companies will not give a value for a second hand truck. The owner has to nominate an insured value. If the owner insures for $x, then makes a claim, the insurance company suddenly knows the value. If the claim is for a write-off, or involving a third party, if the IC's valuation is $x+, they will only pay the percentage that they claim was insured.
e.g. a recently purchased truck is insured for $200,000, the purchase price. Said truck is at fault writing off a $100,000 car. The insurance company values the truck at $300,000 So will only pay out $66,000, leaving the truck owner liable for $34,000. I have no doubt insurance companies would use this method do limit their liability on other types of cover.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
