So I'm on flat ground and fail to proceed.
I was chained to a log.

I go straight to 15PSI
Forward, reverse, forward. No more than 5 rotations of the wheels

Yes, I did unchain it from the log!
I'm off with a wheel barrow of recovery gear
At least it's in my own back yard
I'm sure John can tell us about the shear strength of saturated soils

Part of the reason I own a 4wd is I saw my Dad get stuck in a mud patch in a 2wd also in our own yard like the OP.

I had 4WD's when I was younger sometimes. Reason I got my D2 was that Jan and I loved to just go for drives and see where we wound up. We had a Fairmont which you could bog on wet grass. So, she kept that for her daily and we went for drives in the Disco so we could "See where that goes".... She was happy, as long as it wasn't muddy..... or steep..... no creeks..... Still, she liked the seating position, so that was ok. She liked going in it but wouldn't drive it. Refused point blank to get in the D1, or Series. Dunno what she would have made of the OKA!
