    Gasket behind auxillary housing,on defender.

    Hi.

On the front of the tdi engine behind the water pump, theres a housing with a water inlet to it from the block. Beware of that gasket!! evidentley there has been a modified one made to replace the original.( now plastic),,
just done mine , caught it just in time spotted water on the concrete.

You could dump all your water in no time flat, and temp guagewon't pick it up. Off to buy a low water alarm this week, to scary without one

    Cheers Sumo.

Its known as the "pistol" gasket, cos thats what its shaped like. Common problem though; the replacement ones are a composite material that lasts a lot longer than the old fibre type....Chris.

Thanks for the info Chris, The original gasket can't have been to good as i bought mine with less than 100.000 ks on it and some one had already played around with silastic in that area!

    Cheers sumo.
