I knew men were equally susceptible as women, it's often on TV. If we all took alarm at the things that might kill us, we'd die a nervous wreck.

If my lovely Jan had chosen to have some tests, rather than just go on believing everything would be fine, there's a good chance she would be still here, and not in the ground where she's been for nearly seven years. She might have seen her grandchildren grow up. That's why I now listen to doctors. Took me a while, because drinking was more fun.... not.** If I had listened sooner I probably wouldn't have peripheral bloody neuropathy, wouldn't have had an ulcer on my foot that could have turned gangrenous ( it didn't because I listened ).
I am going to be 71 in a few weeks, and I am healthier now than I was at 60. If I had stuck my head in the sand and just continued the way I was I would very likely have joined Jan. As it is, I might get to see my grandchildren grow up, and do so standing up on my own two feet.
I don't do everything they tell me. Statins, for instance. Doc wants me to take them, but agrees that the potential side effects* could outweigh the benefits at my level of cholesterol. I am, however, going to listen and have this lump thing investigated. It may be nothing, or it may be life threatening. I'd be bloody stupid not to find out.

* I contend that there are no side effects, only effects they didn't intend. Statins can lower cholesterol, but can also raise blood sugar. They may have serious consequences for my already abused liver.

** She died of liver cancer. Irony, much?

Dumb question time. How would men ever find lumps? we don't have breasts, you have skin and a pectoral muscle. You won't feel lumps in muscle .... and skin is skin.

You might. I have skin, pectoral muscle and fat. Having felt what a lump actually feels like on someone who had a genuine lump and let me feel it, I'd have no issues noticing one on myself. They're not particularly stealthy.

Men absolutely do have breasts. Or do you think your nipples are painted on? Our whole lymphatic system is pretty much identical, but our chromosomes mean our hormones do different things. Given hormones, men can develop breasts that resemble women. The whole transgender thing depends upon these sorts of things. There is a huge amount of info out there if you look.

I have a lump the size of a marble. I would never have known if it hadn't shown up in a CT scan. Well, probably not "never". But I sure wasn't looking.
