    Car fires, diesel this time

BMW cars involved here. Cars belong to our police force. BMW say the cause is engine oil dilution. Years ago you could run your diesel Land Rover for long periods in a stationary mode without detriment. The handbook had a chart telling you how many hours you could do this before changing the oil. Perhaps BMW should have it in the handbook for these vehicles. Fancy cars, fancy oil, but you still need to do the basics.

    What fires?
Is that a click bait title?
i read engine blow ups due to oil dilution from running with the car locked for long periods.

Sorry about that. There was another article saying that the cars were going up in flames. Will put it up if I can find it again.

    Not just in Ireland

A problem that has been known about for many years and it would appear is seen by the manufacturer as a user fault

If HWP pulls you over find the longest grass you can park in as they won't come near you as they've lost quite a few due to lighting up the grass due to the exhaust heat here in Oz.
Unfortunately a couple of times the persons vehicle that they pulled over has gone up too.

Surely there'd be an insurance claim in there somewhere. "The cops set fire to the bush, which set fire to my car".

And of course the fires were caused by hot Catalytic converters which the government mandated.
