    Oh, the irony!

    A year old fire station in Germany burned down when an electric emergency vehicle that was plugged in caught fire.

    All the fire appliances were also destroyed. There was no fire alarm installed as it wasn’t deemed necessary.
    Estimated losses 20-24 million Euros.

    For some reason this reminds me of an incident while I was in PNG fifty years ago. The new government stores warehouse in Port Moresby was equipped with a modern fire alarm system. Not too long after it was in operation, and full to the brim with all sorts of stores, some bright spark got sick of the fire alarm going off every hot day. About six months later a fire started in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, I was out in the bush at the time, so missed it, but I was told later that it was really spectacular.
