Edd China and galvanizing a chassis
Edd China has his project Range Rover chassis galvanized and powder coated. Does not mention the costs involved, so not sure if this way is a bit of an overkill?
Incidentally, issue number 237 of the Series One Club magazine has a cover photo of a S1 chassis done in a similar orange colour.

I've not watched the entire series since after the first two episodes I think so I don't know everything about it but; I had informed in my home country if I could even do such a thing since it means that you are most likely being quite destructive with the chassis number. If the galvanization does not cover it up the powder coating surely will and in the end it needs to be readable. Down here we can have the chassis inspected and tagged with a unique serial number that is safe for powder coating, sand blasting and galvanization so you can do to the original chassis whatever you want/need but they will punch a new one in at some point.
The process is like an old style dot matrix printer except it hits quite a bit harder and would certainly damage the powder coating. In fact I reckon they would remove some of it to make sure you get a proper impact of the letters. I have done a Jeep chassis that I only painted but still they damaged that paint, put in the chassis number and just put some clear coat in it, making that the weakest part of your chassis protection
Besides that, I was always warned against hot dipping a chassis since it could easily bend and we would not want that -g- Still, I like this kind of attention to detail and make it as good as it can be!
