    AO AO AO

Is to much tennis nearly enough?

Was it "Australian Open: Kichenok won't shake hands, Sinner wins 'point of the tournament'

    "

"Sinner and Rune play the 'point of the tournament'

    "

The WA lad giving Sinner some stick for the first set was it for me

    Men's and women's quarterfinals

    • Coco Gauff (3) vs Paula Badosa (11) not before 11:30am on Rod Laver Arena
    • Tommy Paul (12) vs Alexander Zverev (2) not before 2pm on Rod Laver Arena
    • Aryna Sabalenka (1) vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (27) not before 7pm on Rod Laver Arena
    • Novak Djokovic (7) vs Carlos Alcaraz (3) last on Rod Laver Arena

Personally hope Carlos kicks butt and melts a grumpy snow flake

I've been watching some of the tennis, depending on what I'm doing. I was annoyed in yesterday's match between Navarro and Kasatkina when they went to the 18h00 News at set point, as there can be as few as two set points in a ladies match. They did say to go to their other channels but they didn't keep following the match, not even the point, so much for an organisation that is supposed to love and understand Tennis.

I liked Eva Lys' attitude against Iga Swiatek, she was smiling even though she was getting mauled, however she can say she has won against Iga even if it was only one game.

MIA CULPA Novak Djokovic did a amazing recovery and took out the young gun.

My shut eye took me to bed before that occurred
Novak Djokovic showcases generational ability to thrive in chaos after outduelling Carlos Alcaraz in Australian Open epic

Sporting contests billed as blockbusters often tend to disappoint, but the signs were apparent early on that this epic would not disappoint. And for the next 3 hours and 37 minutes, the fans were treated to an Australian Open clash of the highest order.
Djokovic called the match one of the best he's been involved with at Melbourne Park, and although he was beaten, Alcaraz couldn't help but agree."

Mr de Minaur is back on court tonight facing a Sinner Both are cool. Aussi bias will have be on Alexs side perhaps IF I can stay awake

Well Alex de Minaur lost against Sinner who seems to be his kryptonite as that is 10 from 10.

The only Australians left in is an all Australian affair in the mixed doubles final today.

It seems the AO was such a success that some other sports want to play in Melbourne like the American NFL (Gridiron) and their NBA (Basketball).

Victoria News NSW government accused of 'epic failure' as NFL, NBA chooses Melbourne over Sydney Melbourne has further cast

The US NFL plays 3 games a year in London. Required the stadium to be rebuilt to accommodate their requirements as those for soccer were not what they needed. Stadium can now play both NFL and soccer

Some years ago was on a train to London. 2 hour trip but standing all the am way as was not enough seats. Speaking to the person standing beside me found out they were US and worked for the US NFL. Was based in Europe as were looking to increase viewership and expand playing the game as saw a big opportunity for the sport

At the time were looking to base a team in London to play in the US league. Seems this was not going to work as it would have required a US team 3 weeks to move 200 odd people from US to London and back each game. Seems they settled on 3 games over 3 weeks. They are all sold out with about 60k attending each game

I'm not surprised about the amount of staff involved as IIRC each side basically has two teams, an offensive and a defensive one, and a player in the sideline that just takes kicks.

The third of the Tennis Grand Slams of the year is being held at Wimbledon right now, the AO is the first.

Unfortunately Australia's Kim Birrel and Alexei Popyrin have lost their matches. I remember Kim playing the Brisbane Open and thinking, she was playing out of her skin, she must be a local, and she is close enough as from the Gold Coast. Likewise home ground advantage helped the Brit win against Alexei.
