    Latest storm

Our entrance. There is another one down just around the corner. Some minor stuff up at the house.

We lost power 9.00am on Friday but it came back on at 11.15pm. Always have a stock of candles in. Regarding heat, I had on a modest sitting room fire and a small one in the kitchen range. I ran the hot water occasionally to keep things right. We are well used these things up here. It was not quite a "Little House on the Prairie " situation as we had a small wind up radio to keep in touch with the outside world. Internet and mobiles were out. We have a landline but sincethe phone company "upgraded" the broadband the landline now comes through the broadband, ergo no phone. So much for progress.

About 9.30pm the snow started. I was beginning to wonder if I had inadvertantly offended someone called Moses. I consoled myself with the thought that the snow would no doubt keep the locusts at bay. At 11.15 pm power was restored so we were lucky. I hear there is another storm brewing....
The windmill is not near me.

Good to hear you are safe and I love the windmill. Should be more of that.

My cousin lives in Florida and she jogs every morning. Yesterday she had to do it on the beach because everywhere else was covered in snow. She moved from Virginia to get away from the cold.

Not sure how that is working out?

Sorry, no pictures, but this reminds me, after the wind on Wednesday night, I drove with my 13yo grandchild in the 2a the 17km to the bitumen pulling trees and bits of trees off the road. Only one needed the chain and vehicle to move after cutting it at the edge of the road. Most of the bits we moved were dead pines from the fire eighteen years ago, although there were some small branches from gums.

And also we went to the village to get mail - had a cuppa at my niece's, and directly opposite her, on the reservation between the service Rd and the highway, a large gum has shed a branch, about 10m long, and about 30cm diameter where it broke off about 5m above the ground. Strangely, it has broken off about 60cm from the trunk, not right at the trunk as they usually do.

Fortunately, it fell parallel to the power lines and road, so no issues.

Hi Spud. Last night after a 39 degree day and very hot night we got a ripsnorter of a Thunderstorm. Roof ripped of a few places. Trees knocked over and power out for lot of people in South Eastern Oz

Up north they have had 2 metres of rain in the last day or so and getting a LOT more.

Its a mild 33 degrees out side here now Oh just for fun Bush fires are here there and ....

A Taylors Lakes home, in Melbourne's north-west, has been destroyed after being hit by lightning, and two properties in the state's far north-west were destroyed by a blaze sparked by a storm.
Authorities say 500,000 lightning strikes were recorded across the state during the storm.
    What's next?

More storms are forecast and authorities warn extreme heat over the next 48 hours means more bushfires could occur.

Last night? I leaned to levitate last night. In bed ( I have an upstairs bedroom with lots of floor to ceiling windows- room with a view ), and there were some lightning bolts that ere simultaneous with the thunder. I'm used to storms here, but one was the loudest I think I have ever heard.

At least you got to hear it, JT. It's the one you don't hear, that's a worry! Or, so I've heard.

There are still people with no electricity. It was thought that everyone would have power restored by this Friday 7th, that will be two weeks from the storm. Latest update is it will be into next week before power is restored to everyone. Crews from mainland Europe (Austria, France Finland) are assisting with the repairs. Some people in these areas have no water either.

Thats tough Spud. Power out for that long would be a major PITA. Nice to hear of the help being provided mate. Hope its fixed ASAP.

Mean while here Crocs near the sunshine coast and a LOT more rain up north. Who would think the world can be a bit nuts at times

"Coldest February night on record in parts of Victoria with summer snow in the Alps

" Coldest February night on record in parts of Victoria with summer snow in the Alps - ABC News

    It's not a storm it's a **** storm perhaps

    For the record
'Melbourne has shivered through its coldest February night on record on Saturday as summer snow flurries fell in the Victorian Alps. The temperature in the city dipped to 9.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, breaking the previous February record of 10C on February 15, 2017.
At Mount Baw Baw, a 26-year record was smashed when the overnight temperature plummeted to minus 1.4C, breaking the previous record of -1C on February 8, 1999.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Keris Arndt said the cold front that moved into Victoria on Friday was dragging very cold air from the Southern Ocean over the state.'

I have ugg boots on! I did sweat while out running in 10 degrees until it rained and washed me off this morning
