    What is in a date?

    Hello All,

I have been unemployed since September 2024. I have applied for stacks of jobs and even managed to get the opportunity to be interviewed. However, so far the "un" still reflects the my current employment status.

Last night I found a couple of jobs that really piqued my interest. Then I noticed the closing date for both jobs. I had a double take and a bit of a chuckle to myself. Just wondering whether it marks the prospects of each role. The closing date for both roles is the first of April! Both roles mean a big change in location too. Sort of in the momentous scheme of things.

Anyone had a such a notable date for starting a new direction in your life? How did it work out?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Well good luck Lionel!

I was once interviewed on news years eve, with a start date of 26th Jan, got the job!

I was made redundant in September 2022 and like you applied for 100’s of jobs. Managed to have a few interviews but get feedback like too experienced, too senior, you will get bored, you will intimidate our management all code for too old! Seems once you are over 55ish you are on the shelf. I need to accept that I’m forced into semi retirement, at least for a while.
    All the best!

    Hello All,

I went to the supermarket today and when I was driving back a song came on the car radio that I had not heard for years. When I got back home I checked out the lyrics to the song ... hmmm... I tried not to read too much into it ...

I deliberately chose this version because it has Bon Scott singing.

    Kind regards

    Hello All,

Having some time on my hands between job applications, I went on YouTube and found a Tedx Talk ... Yes, it is a tad too American ... bear with it as it talks about an interesting concept.Taylor Doe presentation explains what Doe calls ‘And Then Moments’ – "the seemingly overlooked moments in life that actually help people succeed". Oh, he failed to mention - its not what you know - its who you know. The most interesting aspect is the concept of locked opportunities and the amount of keys people have in their pockets.

I started my first job on my 17th birthday. I stayed with the company for 37 years.

A special day was this week, our 55th wedding anniversary.
