Thread: International parts shipping- better options?

Have you done a FIAT before? Have you heard of The Italian Job. Sam there in particular was a collector of 500s for a while... along with Haflingers and who knows what. Angelo at Monza Motors in Bayswater also, which reminds me to go and see him. He's not young and could be gone.

Sam lives near me, although I don't see him. There's a little powder blue 600 often at my local OKA/LR repairer, cos they look after many odnesses.

That's a good tip to go and have a chat with the guys at the Italian Job. I lived in Camberwell when they were there and was aware of them as I had an Alfa although I don't think I ever did business with them- maybe once but that's over 40 years ago. I might take a drive down to Oakleigh and have a chat about sourcing parts.

With all my FIATs I used to haunt them. They're getting on now. Maybe Charlie, who is, err, an interesting character, has brought in new blood. Most of the places I knew are long gone.

Depending on time, luck? and certainly added complexity... I just realized I know of "a way" to get some stuff to Oz.

Ever being delayed with more setbacks that I can count by now, I still plan to sail down under this year. The car will be in a 20ft shipping container and there should be lots of space left for some spare parts and such.

The thing is (are):

• you would need to have the time to wait for them
• We'll be shipping to Fremantle as it now stands
• I'd need on the ground help since I do not want to get slapped with duties and what not

As you can imagine, I have no problem trying to bring extra parts along but if that makes my Temporary Import for the range a whole lot more difficult, that's a headache we can do without but if there is a local shipping agent who is proficient in sorting it all out for us, heck, I need to pay for that container anyway eh?

I would need to check with out shipper if they support such a thing since they advertise as CAR shippers only, but still

That's an incredible offer to take up some space in your container and don't be surprised if you get a stampede of people who would like to help you utilise all that extra space as it is really the perfect solution for anyone wanting to get some items shipped here, but I worry that it would possibly complicate your life more than you may anticipate. Perhaps a starting point might be that you could ask your shipping agent about this possibility, as they will know whether it is a realistic possibility- if they say yes then let's talk further, I'm not in any hurry but if the opportunity presents itself then I would be keen to have a vendor over there perhaps load a bunch of panels on a pallet and get them to your loading point.
I imported a chassis from a UK supplier about 18 months ago and the customs arrangements at this end were reasonably straightforward, it was the shipping arrangements at the UK end that turned into a nightmare.
