Great!
Keep the report and pics coming. I'm planning to do the Hay River track next year.
After leaving the Georgina River we travelled along the Donohue Hwy to the NT Border where it then becomes the Plenty Hwy. The road in much much better condition than it was back in 85, when it was a huge bulldust hole. Now its 100km travel.
We camped the night before we hit the Hay R just out of Jervois on the Marshall R. The guy selling fuel at Jervois ($1.73 per l) no doubt happy to see us as we filled up tanks and jerry cans before hitting the desert.
The nexy day, a HUGE drive of 80km to Batton Hill Camp (permits required to enter). Its on aboriginal land, cared for by aboriginal elder Lindsay Bookie. He was not there at the time but had left the camp in the capable hands of Billy and Kevin. The camp was extremely clean and well cared for and the hot showers appreciated. The camp kitchen area well set up and we made good use of it.
We all did the bush tucker tour the day after and although the area is dry and bush tucker pretty scarce at the moment, Billy was able to show us enough to keep us interested, and to take us on a very pleasant drive around the area. Late in the afternoon we went back out with Billy to Goyder's Pillar to watch the sun set.
It was a really nice way to kickstart the drive down the Hay River.
