    youi car insurance

i just wanted to talk about my experience with youi insurance
today i was doing insurance price comparisons on my cars

today i look at shannons, enthusiest, raa, club 4x4 and youi

now to start, 2 things, first, i used to work in in sales (door to door for electrizity and telstra) years ago, and my ex worked in the car insurance business, so i know a fair bit about car insurance.

about me: clean driving record, no mods to cars, etc etc should be pretty simple to get a quote right? right?!

    what i look for:
any driver can drive my car
market vs agreeded value. i dont care if its market value, as long as you can tell me what the corrent market value is. why? market value fluxuates, i accept that. my motorbike for example, i got for 13k 5 years ago (mines has high km), market value according to the insurance company swann is 15k. i judge this to be accurate. more on this to follow

every company except for youi i was able to get an online quote with a price.

when i went to get a quote with youi, they demand to call me.
this is different to enthusiest car insurance who said, i cant give you an online quote right now, but let me get back to you. and a few hours later got an email quote.

so, youi call me, at 630am
what company can afford to call me at 630am in the morning...one that is built around sales

youi go thought all the questions i just answered online...waste of time
when it comes to market value, they refuse to tell me the current value. they only do a value when an assessor comes out. what this actually means is that on the day, if your is a write off, they will low ball you.

the lady on the phone was quite good on sales, i gave her a few questions, she gave the correct sales answer every time. this worries me.
she also asked what is important to me in a quote, i lied and told her price. natrally enough she focused on price. she also spruked their road side assist which comes in thair packege and was trying to differentiate based on that.

even after i kept saying no, she kept me on the phone for 21min, classic sales tactic.

    RRS
1889 per year Shannons, agreed value 30k
    1467 raa, agreev value 20k
1094 Club 4x4, market value, waiting to hear back on current value
9xx youi, market value, wont tell me value, this worries me

the higher premium the higher the agreed valuw tih market value being lowest premium

i hope you learnt something today

I think the cheaper budget ones can be very finicky, years ago when renewing my driver's licence I sat next to a young lady that was insured by such a company, she'd had an accident, so they wanted her driving record from Qld Transport.

I looked at Youi for caravan insurance, similar with needing to ring me and I found they weren't cheap at all and some of their conditions annoyed me like they insisted that I use a wheel clamp when it's being stored behind a locked gate.

    A Youi story.

My sons mate ran up the rear of the sons Defender. As stupid as it seems,it happened.....

Youi said go here for a quote. The quote was something like $2 1/2 K.(this was about 10yrs ago)

Son had the option of getting another quote, and using a repairer of his choice,so he took it to a well known quality repairer in Eagle Farm.
Don't know if they still do,but they used to do a lot of LR work.

Their quote was just over $5K,and the quote was accepted. The parts came to nearly $2K.

Club 4X4,been there with the Land Cruiser.
Nice and cheap the first year, then it almost doubles the next.
They also cut a lot of things out, their disclosure statement is a must read.

For that vehicle we are now with RACQ,and have been for about 4 yrs.

I have been with YOUI for 13 years.
2 write offs and one $8500 claim and another claim of say $3000 all settled quickly.( these were no fault claims)
The market value is negotiable when the car is written off and I had it increased when I showed evidence that they were too low.
YOUI is a funny company in that you have to phone them at renewal time to get the best deal . if you are lazy and just accept the renewal notice they could be expensive.
However I have found them to be very competitive as I do a survey at every renewal.
Caravan is another matter. They are not competitive on caravans IMHO.
I am the perfect client of course. age 75 no demerits for many years , and only other driver my wife 78.
My son finds them uncompetitive. he is 49 and has written off several cars and bikes and has numerous demerit points and a licence loss. Even Shannons have said they will wipe him with one more write off.
So horses for courses . if you are an old codger and have a clean driving record I find them great and easy to deal with.
    Regards PhilipA

    im finding two things now:

    1) company have starting saying, if you have a driver that not listed/nominated, their not covered.
i believe this is because kids are getting the insurance policy in their parents name. to make their premium cheaper
i dont have kids, but i do like my friends driving my cars.

    2)
companies have starting refuinig to provide 3rd party insurance if the car is worth too much, forcing you to pay the higher comprehensive.

    current value is a range: $19,800 - $23,540.

this lines up with my expectations
