Thread: VicRoads.... what a bunch of clowns

Not even the teensiest bit surprised. About five years ago I was pulled up by the Highway Patrol. Not speeding or anything, but the Ford I had then came up on their ANPR system as being white. Could have fooled me, and Ford, probably, because the car came from the factory Ice Blue. Said so everywhere that mattered except the VicRoads computer. The worst bit was I had to go to VR to get it changed otherwise it would keep happening... And, of course to do this, in our new Service Driven world, I had to make an appointment! Not sure why, because I had to wait for my number to be called anyway.

Not as bad as your story, Colin, but definitely a sign of the times.

Yes, rego info can be weird.

Many years ago, my son was pulled up whilst driving my 1971 Hillman Hunter. The copper's computer said it was a Chrysler Unk(nown) meaning they didn't know what model.

Now the copper knew his cars and knew it was a Hillman Hunter so obviously my car had dodgy plates from another vehicle.

What he didn't know was that from 1971, Chrysler had dropped the Hillman name. My car had Hunter badging but no Hillman badging. It even had the Chrysler PentaStar on the front left mudguard.

My son had to open the bonnet to show the Chrysler compliance plate plus the Chrysler decals on the inner panels. On top of that, he showed him the owner's handbook which showed it was a Chrysler.

What is the build year of the vehicle?
That does not sound right at all. Is it possible that the secretary of the car club made a mistake with the paperwork?
Have they tried going to a different Vic Roads?
I would give the Victoria Red Plate club a call. The secretary there is very knowledgeable regarding matters like this.

Build is '87.
The person was told that the chassis number isn't on the VicRoads database, nothing to do with paperwork.
If it's not on the database they can't process. The computer says NO.

The person is going to try another VicRoads Centre but through a contact, who has access to people in VicRoads Engineering, it's been confirmed they do have the vehicle on their database.

Hopefully it gets sorted out quickly.

It's a strange system. I have an old dual axle trailer that I bought from a farmer. I thought I'd find out about registering it last year. Thing has a number on the drawbar that was written in weld. Rang VicRoads. First thing that surprised me is that in less than a minute I was speaking with a human. Second thing, I bought this trailer probably ten years before... well, at least before Jan died in 18. Bloke went away for about ten minutes and came back to tell me the trailer was in the system and all I'd need was a weighbridge certificate. Not even an inspection... Now, this thing was more rust than it was trailer so I didn't go ahead. I have it pretty good now, so I guess in the near future I'll see if the system still has it. 🤞🙏

I bet it was Diamond White, quite a popular colour in XY,XA. Queensland police ordered all their cars that colour but it really looks to be light blue.

One thing that occurred to me some time ago whilst sitting waiting for my number to come up in Vic Roads: they do not offer you anything whatsoever. It is purely a money harvesting operation. Your car would not drive any differently without registration and you would not drive any differently without a license. At least clowns in a circus offer entertainment.
I did not know it was now privately owned- so now it's a corporation that offers nothing. Bet it's 'offshore'.

Someone I know purchases a vehicle that hasn't been registered for over 10 years.
Fixes it up and gets a roady, heads to VicRoads with paperwork for a Club Permit.

The person has an image of the rego plate and a VicRoads rego sticker from the last time it was registered but if it's not on their system there's nothing they can do !!!

Turns out VicRoads was privatised about 10 years ago and a lot of information (and knowledge) has been 'lost'.

Spoke to someone 'in the know' and they contacted a division of VicRoads and guess what.....it did come up on their system.
Still having to jump through hoops but beware, if you have a vehicle in VIC that is more than 10 years since it was last registered you may experience problems when you go to register.

Hopefully this one can be sorted out before the roady runs out !

Are you having issues with the chassis number or number plate Colin?
The plate could be reissued if not registered for some time, but not a chassis number??!
