I was working on a large, canal development in the Moreton Bay area. A female resident of the adjoining, previous stage, voiced her concerns over the fact that, when all the canals were constructed and filled with water, the level of the bay would drop and would make navigating their large sailing yacht more difficult.
I informed her that the water used filling the canals was more than offset by the displacement of the increasing number of Supertankers in the ocean. She seemed happy enough with the explanation.
(This was just before the "Al Gore Prophecies" were placed upon us, so Global Warming was not a known rationale.)

We had a new guy start at work and he was not the sharpest tool in the shed shall we say.

Coming up to Easter he asks everyone in the workshop "Do we get Easter Tuesday off here" I as a joke responded "It depends, if Good Friday falls on the Saturday then yes we get it" He quickly ran off to look at the calendar to check and was happy that it looked like he got Tuesday off.

She headed straight for the telephone to call her daughter, who, I suspect, might be taking the job because it was a long way from Melbourne, and probably already knew the answer. I never met the daughter, but knowing her mother I can see why she might want a job a long way from Melbourne.
After our daughter qualified as a nurse circa (2007) she took a job in Derby, WA. I reckon it was because Derby is probably to furthest one can get away from Sydney (and parents?) whilst staying in Oz.

Now she's a doctor working in Japan.

    True story

In 1995 I was studying Japanese at a university in Tokyo. The class was mostly beginners, including an older American guy, who I think was already retired. After a couple of weeks the teachers started testing us by asking simple questions in Japanese, like "what is your name?". This American guy got really agro and actually said that if they'd just ask the questions in English he'd be able to answer!

    Eastcheap

When I was living in London I had a conversation with an American tourist who asked what street we were in. I said "Eastcheap". He said "oh, Eastcheap Street". I said no, it's just Eastcheap. He clearly didn't get it or believe me.

Just watched ( sort of ) a movie on yt. You want stupidity? Endangered Species has it in spades. I've heard of B grade, well this is Z grade. But it's so bad , and the characters are so stupid, that it's funny. I'm definitely not recommending it, but it fits the topic of this thread, especially the scenes with the leopard, which I wanted to win.

John ( JDNSW ) would be chuffed to know that ?cell? phones don't work in sub Saharan Africa, at least not where you find hyenas, rhinos, and yes, leopards.

But these muppets think they should. And that's the smart bit.
