Better than asking for the rego number, I guess.
Thanks, Scarry.
Surely he won't ask, 'Manual or Auto'?[biggrin]

I have an original brochure for a post 1990 HZJ75 series cruiser and it says 2500kg with brakes with an asterisk that says "subject to towbar design and stae regulations" 750kg without brakes.
Thanks for this. Many years ago, I had to replace the entire, original towbar and installed an Hayman Reese 350kg. However, considering your information, I'm leaning to the '2500kg' rating.
So, would this mean a ball weight of 250kg?
The asterisk is the main concern. Leaves a lot open to conjecture, especially with DOT and vehicle insurance charlatans.
Following the 10% "rule" than 250kg would be about right.
The biggest towing restriction was probably the lack of grunt from the 1HZ diesel, the later turbo versions had an increased towing capacity in both 75 and 80 series, the 75 also became the 78 series when they got the coil front end.
Just remember thought that The early turbo engines ran the same bearings as the 1HZ and they were prone to failure.
At least it was just a sump off job to change them in a couple of hours.
