						G'day All
I have read in a few old posts on here that the Rtm's ( Dunlop Road Trak Majors ) are still made at the Dunlop Plant in Zimbabwe, South Africa, branded Dunlop Universals. Or were 10 years or so years ago anyway.
Does anyone know if they are imported into Australia? There seems to be an interest with enthusiasts doing restorations, though maybe not enough to prompt the importers.
I also read that there is a brand called Super Swallow which produce an exact copy.
I have used them on my trips to a Western Queensland cattle property since the early 90's and have found them great with very minimal punctures/staking though I have destroyed a couple . But alas some of my surviving tyres are starting to finally separate. I'm amazed they have lasted this long. Some are still going fine but the time is coming to look for a replacement.
Any thoughts on all of that guys?
Any thoughts on using bar treads which are currently available in 7.00x16.
I won't be using them on bitumen roads, only on farm tracks and on hard red/black soil country with a bit of sand and sometimes mud.
A bit rich for me!

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Some of the Jeep mobs in the US still find similar. We used to call bar treads Jeep Service. Some Jeep forums might help as wlel, although their ribbing will probably be worse than ours.

I got a set of 7.00 X16 RTM's about 18 years back, a batch was being made in Malaysia.
Originals were 6-ply, these were 8-ply.
Probably worth trying to contact Dunlop directly.
I walked into Jax Tyres at the time, told them the size and they said they could get RTM's !

Thanks gromit, I might get onto to them.
Do you still have yours on a vehicle or have you long worn them out and dumped them? Worn old ones is all I need really as I only put them on for an odd week at a time when I visit my mates cattle property. I drive there on my highway tyres.

I probably should have explained my use a little clearer initially. A bit of a case of ' I know what I mean' I suppose.
I have stuck with them as I almost can't remember the last time I have staked one, where as I was getting punctures at least one per week with radials. Though I have completely wrecked a few of my Dunlops over the years.
I have also found them to cut through in the greasy black/red soil mud where as the wider radials tended to slide on top.
I'm open to any suggestions Slunnie as maybe I'm probably too set in my ways.

I guess if youve always had good experiences with the RTM's, then its pretty understandable to hunt them down. The 7.0R16 is pretty limiting for options also. Its why I really liked the MTR with Kevlar also, a traction tyre with a bullet proof carcass, but these are not made anymore either.
Cheers
