German Landrover fanatic politely responds to offer of Hilux (4, 5)
Out of curiosity, is there anyone on the forum who does The Guardian, weekday cryptics. What makes me ask is, I reckon today's puzzle is one of the hardest I can remember. I finally completed it, not by pure knowledge, but with some luck and educated guesswork.

I used to do it, but found too many errors with it. Daily, there would be too many, or not enough squares for my answers.

I reckon today's (cryptic) cross words are AI compiled and use some very very obscure word or use made up words that are not found in traditional dictionaries.
Now and then we used to be able to complete one, but that doesn't happen these days.

Perhaps I'm wearing rose coloured glasses, but quite a few of the Guardian cryptic compilers have been around for yonks.

My wife and I do a Times Quick Cryptic Crossword every day. They come in books of 100 crosswords and we are up to book 10!
My favourite clues are,
1. HIJKLMNO - - - - - 5 letters
2. PREIST - - - - - - - -, - - - - -. 8 letters then 5 letters , two words
Answers in a few days.

Used to do lots of different Xwords. And Wordle, and Waffle, but I agree that the compilers these days are probably AI

Kudos to Tins and Randlover.
Now the tricky one.
PREIST is PRIEST spelled incorrectly so it is a CLERICAL ERROR !!!
