I've had some success with Naphcon-A. But I'm not in the same ares as you. Works with the wattle we get here, but only temporarily of course.

Everyone is different. I have found none of the tablet type of anti-histamines works for me. There side effects are crazy though. I had some even give me heart palpitations. Side effects is one thing, but when they don't help at all ..... The only thing that has ever really worked for me is polaramine (years ago), these days it doesn't. They changed the active ingrediants many years ago now. Its like the more adverts and shiny labels (and expensive) the products are, the more crap they are.

I visited an optometrist a couple of years back and she warned me the stuff they put in your eyes would make them sting. Afterwards I kinda laughed and said "that's nothing, I get hay fever every spring and its 100 times worse on my eyes than that stuff).

She suggested this. Zaditen

For me it works well. The brand name probably doesn't matter, if you find something that works, just find the cheapest version of it that has the same active ingrediant.

Rhinocort works for me to a limited extent. Probably 'cos I'm my own worse enemy. I only take it when I'm really bad. Which is too late. Smart people would probably use it daily through spring so you build up levels of it in your system and never get to the point where its bad.

To cut grass these days, I have upgraded to one of the cheap forced air fed full face masks purchased from ebay. Its remarkably good for the price. It obviously covers both your eyes and lungs, so massively reduces the allergens.

I have been using Zaditen for years - under the direction of eye specialists. It normally falls over with its effectiveness during the sugar cane harvest season. However, it disappeared off all the chemist's shelves back in June or so.

I have a blood test to do and then the results will be forwarded to a clinic who specialise in allergies. Apparently the cane harvest season this year has been a particularly bad one for people up and down the Queensland coast who experience eye allergies.

So, at least I am not Robinson Crusoe

Hello Shane,

What was recommended to me as a replacement for Zaditen is Patanol 0.1% Eye Drops 5mL - Olopatadine. Unfortunately it is via prescription only and of course it is not listed on the PBS - so no change out of $50 per bottle. Nor is it streets ahead of Zaditen in its performance either.

My thinking is that by not taking the Patanol my eyes might be even worse than what they are. You know - attempt at being optimistic.

I just use Lortadine such as Claratyne, however if that stops working then I use Fexofenadine.
