Argh, I'm really sorry to hear this. He has battled with Alzheimers for quite a while now.

He has brought a lot of people a lot of joy, he's been a great competitor, and he has never been shy of walking his own path within motorsport.

It'd be so good if domestic motor racing had the characters, personalities, celebrities or what ever you want to call it from the days when he was racing.
    Cheers

I was at Calder one day, maybe 1970, not sure. In those days you could wander around the pits. Moff nearly deafened me with that gorgeous Mustang. And then he couldn't get reverse, so a few of us pushed it backwards out of its tent. Moff had his race face on, but he still shook our hands through the window.

I was there for this one as well...

As you say, so many memories. I hope that wherever he is he's having a yarn with Brocky.

Probably won't get a word in, what with all the musos and politicians.

I remember when I was a little kid, set up with my car racing track pushing model cars around while watching the bathurst 1977. Moffat was a consummate pro.. unlike many others at the time.

I remember meeting him in the pits at Wanneroo raceway when he was racing the RX7. I must have been about 9 or 10. Dad had a mate who used to race a home-built car in one of the lower classes and he used to crew for him. My job was to hand him the spark plugs when he swapped them after every run.

I loved the sound of that RX7.

Moff started out going door to door looking for corporate sponsors. This was pretty much unheard of here at the time, but usual in the US. I know he was Canadian but he had connections in the USA. As stated, he was the consummate pro. And man was he focused.
Once he got through the bureaucracy and set that RX-7 up the way he wanted it was ballistic.
But I was a Ford guy back then. That Mustang was my absolute favourite racecar. And he could make it talk.
