I've been a fan for a "few years". Seen them live a "few times". I was in grade one when Bon pegged it and hadn't heard of them back then.

3 tours ago I said "I won't go again". My brother called and said "Free tickets, want to come along". So I did and said "I won't go again". This time my brother was taking my niece and she had a chat with the 11 year old who begged me into it, so I went again. Frankly these days it's an AC/DC tribute band, and the next tour should be "Blow up your zimmer frame".

Anyway, I went last Thursday with the 11 year old. To be a bit critical Stevie Young isn't Malcolm, Angus has lost a yard or two of pace and Brians voice is shot to pieces. He's 78 for christs sakes. about 50% of the set list was Bon stuff and Brian has never been able to carry that even in his prime.

Tonight my wife has gone (corporate box invite) and the sprog and I are at home. We rolled through some classic Bon era video clips so he knows what they used to sound like.

I have to say though, if you didn't know what they sounded like previously (like my wife), they still put on a stunning show. I walked out the front of the house and I can hear them from here. We're a good 15 minute drive from the stadium.

I'm almost but not entirely jealous she's there. I was invited but decided I'd rather one of her friends experience it. Todays bands (like the support acts) are barely a pale imitation. I took the lad because he'll probably never see another band that goes as hard in his lifetime.

The support act was "Amyl and the sniffers". If that's the best Australia has to offer I weep for our future. After reading the lyrics to their set list, I'm thankful the unintelligible wailing banshee out the front was actually unintelligible. Hardly appropriate for a gig where people were going to take their kids.
