I just cannot believe it....![]()
While he will always be remembered for his HDT/Holden relationship, my two best memories of him are driving a BMW M3 and Ford Sierra in the late 80s and early 90s.
In '88 after his split with Holden over the Energy Polariserhe bought out the old JPS BMW team from Frank Gardner. I will never forget the sight (or sounds) of he and Jim Richards ringing the neck out of the little M3s across the top of the mountain
. They might not have been as quick as the Holdens and Sierra's getting up the mountain, but did they hammer across the top and down through the Esses.
The other was his qualifying lap in his Sierra when an extinguisher went off in the engine bay![]()

during the one lapper and he completelty smashed the lap record!
Also, could never forget his class win at the Bathurst 12 hour in Pug 405Mi-16 against those bloody Citroens!!
One of my childhood heros is now dead.....but better for him to have gone out this way.
RIP 05

Stacey and i are heading over to Bathurst when she knocks off, apparently the mountain has been flodded by people paying their respects, leaving flowers everywhere and doing laps of honour etc.
The bad thing to come of it all was that some low lives, whilst paying their respects to brocky and there is nothing wrong with that, have graffitied the top of the mountain spraying brock forever and we will miss you etc all over the concrete safety wall. I can imagine what Brocky would be thinking of that.
We are going to take the camera over i will post some pics when i get home. I have been to the shops and picked up a couple of bunches to leave with the rest.
The local radio station B-Rock- you work out where the name came from- has started a fundraiser to raise the money to pay for a statue of brocky to be put ontop of the mount looking down over the track.

[QUOTE=discowhite]what the craps happening! at this rate jonny howard will live forever??
Let's hope not, But what are the chances of two Aussie icons kicking the proverbial bucket in the same week??? I at lease had the fortune to meet brockie in person, also his son and you couldn't get a nicer bloke, it's a shame
Been an ordinary year. 1st Andy Caldecott, then the Croc man, Colin Thiele and Brocky (most shocking and upsetting of all). My Hero is gone. Such a fantastic person as well as the best racing driver this country will see. Had the opportunity to meet him 5 odd times, top bloke. Nearly stayed in Perth to go to the rally on Friday, but had to be back up here to move more stuff to Esperance. What happend to clearing trees closer than 10ft on the apex of a corner in road rallying? Still one of those most unfortuate accidents. All our love goes out to Bev and the kids, Phil and Lewis and all the fans he has touched. We are all united by this sad loss. We have candles burning in tribute around a model HDT A9X. Next trip to Perth will make the pilgrimage to the bend and leave some flowers.Mt Panorama should be renamed Mt Brock.
I rate this day with the death of Elvis.
Enough of this or I am going to cry, again.

Well i went to the mountain, christ the press have a way of blowing **** out of all proportions, there were flowers but only a few bunches on skyline and on pit straight and the only piece of graffiti we could see was a small "Brock Forever" on a plain white billboard that hadnt had the advertising put on it yet. Good to see people are showing their love for such a great man, but it was hardly what the local radio station made it out to be. I left some flowers on behalf of all of us at AULRO. Matt

I went out there on saturday and did a few laps in the disco, and yeah apart from a people placing flowers at the start/finish line and a few at skyline it was pretty quiet. I've never seen so many coppers in one day though, both between sydney and bathurst and on the track. Must've thought a few hot heads were on there way out....
