Those dry powder fire extinguishers are useless in a spinifex fire, may as well throw them at it.

Best thing is a garden sprayer filled with water.

Friend in the LROCWA was on a CSR trip many years ago and a Nissan decided to spontaneously combust. They all emptied their extinguishers on it and then retreated to a safe distance and watched it burn.

Spinifex does tend to burn with black smoke, but it must have burnt through a fuel line early on - which then siphoned fuel into the fire. Had the same thing on an FJ40 when I was working in the Simpson forty years ago. (didn't start from spinifex - started by a petrol leak plus smoking, but was impossible to put out once a fuel line burnt through)
