For those with proper peanuts through injectors Diesels..

For the most part, you can now buy SVO, delivered cheaper than you can diesel.

Buy Miller Vegetable Oil 20Lt Online Melbourne - Velspices Australia

And the price point is such that even if you only buy 20l, it gets delievered for free.

Theres a place in brissy thats selling 20l drums for about $55 but you have to buy 3 to get free delivery and its the same for sydney,

Perth and Adelaide either have poorer advertising of cooking oils online or the cost of shipping it there still has the price a little past the $3/l mark.

I think it's more sustainable to make biodiesel using waste vegetable oil.

    Certainly not anything common rail

200/300tdi should be able to handle it but reports I recall from years ago (I was looking into running an om617 that way and stumbled across many an engine during that research) but some people reported heavy coking within 1000-1500 miles of use. Though, they did run WASTE veggie oil.

Did some digging in my old notes, found this: 4x4 Outdoor Tuning :: Veggie oil conversions

    Cheers,

    What about tractors, JD?

I reckon my old 4 cylinder Perkins might be OK.

    Depending on weather and location....

Without major modifications, any landy diesel predating an Australian 2000 release, 2.25d, 2.5D, tdi2/300 (and the tgv 2.8) and the Isuzu, any repowers with period appriopriate engines are also on the cards

with the right mods and blending the td5 as well.

If you're making bio, all the above are on the cards however the fuels got to be perfect for the td5 injectors to be happy, the maximum injection pressure and the breakdown pressure of biodiesel are worryingly close

All that said, if you're game enough so long as you get the fuel warmed up enough and keep it hot enough any diesel will run vege oil for a while. Im just not sure if the savings are wirth the cost of the parts in a common rail fuel system.

Thanks Dave - just about what I thought. But I figured your view would be a little more authoritative than mine!

I make biodiesel and run or have run it in 300tdi, 4BD1 NA and turbo, Mazda WLT engine in a Ford Courier and a blend in my other halves VW Polo with a PD engine. The Courier has over 40,000 kilometres running home made fuel with zero issues. I've got a few suppliers I've built up over the years so lucky enough a good steady supply of oil. On longer trips I have a few people interstate that can top me up and I do the same for them when they are in my neck of the woods.

I can confirm proper biodiesel works in 300tdi, TD5, and D3 2.7 TDV6 as my mate makes it and we have run these engines on it starting about 27 years ago.
