I thought about that, dobbo, and probably a new thread would be a good idea but that last question was technical, if unusual, and the thread title is "i need general information" - at least, it was intended to be "information!"

The story I heard was that during the war aluminium pots and pans were offered up by the population for the war effort and Spitfire manufacture. At the end of hostilities there was a shirt load available for the use of...also the green paint once used to paint aircraft was cheap.

    1)
Spitfires were made out of recycled metal (only stuff they could get) Rations included tins of SPAM. The empty tin cans had to be returned to get more rations, these tins where melted down and used for munitions, and aircraft parts, Spitfire aircraft parts.

And we all know what happened to the leftover and scrap Spitfire and other Aircraft parts after the war.

I know what Land Rovers have in common with Spitfires - the body cladding. But what's with the Spam tins?

Ok, so question was answered by the time I posted. So do you have to return an old Landie to get a new one?

Don't talk to me about SPAM. The ex missus loved the stuff. But that's OK - handed her back in to get a new one.
