So why are other sites getting so boring?

OK so this has been done before but and I might just be imagining this, I get the impression that a number of well visited sites are not being visited as much these days.

I use to visit a number of sites but couldn’t be bothered wasting my time, for different reasons on different sites.

For instance, Overland is as quite as it gets and has been for some time. There has not been much of interest on there for nearly 12 months. Anyone else going there lately.

explore is now off in a world of it’s own.

The best ( worst ) site has to be Campertrailers on Yahoo. That site is now run for the benefit of a hand full of butt kissers and is censored to hell, to the point that only misinformation is allowed to be posted. I think the word is getting around about that site because it’s monthly hit rate is steadily falling, so in this site’s case, it’s not my imagination.

I’ve culled quite a few sites off my daily visit list and was wondering how many sites others visit these days.

I must admit, I have been looking at unrelated sites more and more because of the boredom of many of the 4x4 and RV sites.

There are still some good sites like this one ( still n# 1 ), Australian4WD and Outer Limits are pretty good and don’t seem to get the idiot fringe on them, trying to stuff things up.

I also visit 4WDMonthly every so often.

I also visit a number of rail sites and computer programming sites.

So what sites does everybody else visit?

I know what you mean. I used to visit 10 or 12 sites most days, but now it's down to 2 or 3.

Apart from AULRO, I like to check out this UK site most days (as I used to live there):
    http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=69

The Piston Heads forums used to be good, but now they are very quiet. I check in there once a fortnight or so to see if anything interesting is going on. They also have some other interesting forums (for me anyway) on Subaru STi and Porsche stuff.

I believe it's the colourful characters on this site that make it such an interesting read, the spoons help make this site what it is, I'm sur you've all read a few controversial threads and thought to yourself (they cannot say that)

The tech support is excellent on this site so is the events run around the country through this site.

But the colourful characters pull in the punters

When I was at uni I used to visit exploreoz, outerlimits, overlander, 4wd monthly plus aulro when I got interested in landrovers.
Now I don't have so much spare time on my hands I only visit aulro and outerlimits for 4x4 stuff and rarely exploreoz for trip stuff.
I always found 4wd monthly and overlander to be a complete waste of space. They seemed to be more for general chat and what is the best tyre for my street driven landcruiser or hilux?

I used to visit lots of forums as well but it seems that here and Outerlimits are all I visit regularly now. I seem to browse the others about once a week but they have all got stale and boring.

    So it’s not just me.

    I fell better now.

I use to browse up to 20 sites, relating to all sorts of subjects.

As posted above, I only visit 3 other Australian sites regularly now.

As I live on this site I can’t really call it visiting.

Looking at the daily numbers, this must be one of the most popular sites going, for 4x4s in general, not just landy sites.

Has anybody got some interesting site they visit, 4x4 or not.

    Cheers

I browse Overlander a lot, as well as AULRO these days (now that the server speed is a lot faster) and also Outerlimits. Occasionally Pirate4x4 also.

I think that I browse the forums to help my insatiable desire to learn more about what interests me, and go away disappointed if I haven't learnt something new each time I peruse. As you learn more and gain experience, many of the threads become stupid as I already know & understand the issue and much of the time the answers can be just plain obvious, and so these threads and the greater forum becomes boring to me. Forums Pirate4x4 and Outerlimits to a lesser extent provide some outstanding tech talk that goes well beyond the usual bolt on chatter, and even this forum does with many of the wonderful and adventurous modifications that people are making. From a social aspect I think Overlander is good, much like this forum is, in that there is plently of alternate and interesting conversations and topics such as general discussion etc. Overlander has a great photo category with a really good weekly photo comp also.
    Cheers

    its all horses for courses,,

its good to see we still get hard core people here,, we do cater for all,, and naturally the newer members ask the same 'ole questions,,
    but thats fine,,
    thats what built this place.

its amazing to read the answers to all sorts of questions, not least LR ones--

    and again,,
thats what built this place, and keeps us coming back

the site would be pretty boring if we all had identical knowledge/cars.
