    Personalised Number Plates

I reckon its time to personalise the Disco with my own plates

Dont know what I will choose yet, but looks as if the boys (11 & 12yo) have opinions too

So who else has got them, and what have you got? Anyone else got any advise on how many numbers/letters you can display on the plates in SA? Also what the annual costs are if any?

    Thanks in Advance,

I periodically contemplate this and have the following observations to share:

Be careful - very very careful. There is a fine line between choosing a clever combination and looking like a w*nker or making yourself a target on the roads.

Don't use your name and birth year - a likely scenario if you just got cut off by a bloke in a Patrol...
"look, theres BOB born in 1965 which makes him 41 years old - hi BOB... you d*ckhead, grow up!"

Don't use anything like "STUD" or "IAMGR8" or any kind of word to blow your own trumpet - your car WILL get key-ed.

Don't use anything too arrogant or antangonistic like "H82WAIT" or "IH8U" - this just gets some people annoyed.

You can try to use something relevant to the vehicle, but then why not just get a Dymo labeller if you feel you have to label everything.

You could try something a bit philosophical and zen but this might also be construed as w*nker-ish.

The guys on Top Gear have no love for personalised plates whatsoever - but in the UK they don't have the choice of combinations or colours we do. Consequently they end up with people trying desperately to make words out of stupid combinations - like B347LES for "Beatles" etc.

Or you could just realise that a number plate is just a number plate and let the fact you drive a Landrover express your intelligence and individuality on its own.

It all depends on the cost. This per annum stuff is complete rubbish. It should be a one off fee only, regardless of lettering etc. We have MELON on ours as it is my wifes nicname. Only a one off cost in WA in lots of colour combos.

Craig, you don't live in NSW where we get taxed wherever possible. Now they want us to pay for diving licences to go scuba diving.
